OUR HISTORY

Oceans Edge Estate comprises the majority of the area formerly occupied by the Novotel Resort  which was a 40-hectare (100-acre), world-class hotel resort that included 430 rooms, an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, squash courts, eight pools, a health club, a conference centre, and multiple restaurants, all set within manicured gardens and grounds. When it opened in January 1989, Cairns residents proudly described it as Beverly Hills coming to Cairns.

From the 1990s through the early 2000s, Novotel Palm Cove was highly successful, attracting a high rate of returning guests. However, as Palm Cove continued to grow in popularity as a premier destination, a proposal emerged in 2003 to redevelop the site into northern Australia’s finest residential resort community. This marked the beginning of its transformation into Oceans Edge Estate, with the first residential lots and new homes (Stage 1A) released for sale in late 2006.

Kerdic, a private Queensland family business, acquired the largest of the 3 undeveloped parcels, which is known as Stage 2. and they have recently completed construction of 21 lots and new recreation areas and walkways and are nearing completion of another 30 lots, and the tennis and pickleball court facility,

Plans have also been finalised for the two undeveloped parcels in the Oceans Edge masterplan not owned or being developed by Kerdic. One will feature 18 luxury apartments adjacent to the Sebel Hotel, and the other will be an exclusive, gated community of 17 residential lots located between Cedar Road and the Hilton Hotel.

Kerdic are collaborating with all the stakeholders to fulfill the original Oceans Edge vision and establish it as northern Australia’s premier residential resort community.

Upon completion, Oceans Edge Estate will comprise 212 residential lots, the Sebel Hotel, several luxury apartment complexes, the Health Club, the Tennis Club, nature reserves and extensive landscaped gardens with walkways and recreation areas.
